RDF event. Meet at 19:15 for a 19:30 start in the Cyprus Road car park, and end up in the &"%"$£%^+ pub.
Details:
Arrive at the Cyprus Road car park in plenty of time to allow you to set up and be ready for the first transmission. Please also bring along a local map and a torch.
At the start you will have been given a sealed envelope which contains the name of the pub near to where the target is. On no account should the envelope be opened, unless you have been unable to find the target and have given up. In this case open the envelope, and you will find details of the name and where the pub is located so that you can join us.
The transmissions will be on a frequency of 145.375 MHz. If this frequency is in use, you will be given an alternative frequency.
The event will start at 19.30. The first transmission from the target will be at that time. Thereafter, each transmission will occur at 15 minute intervals i.e. 19.45, 20.00, 20.15 etc. and will last for two minutes until 21:00. At that time, transmissions will change to a duration of one and a half minutes, but will include clues as to the whereabouts of the target.
You will of course need a device that will receive the transmissions. This could be a portable VHF receiver or transceiver. The antenna could be a simple whip using your body to act as a reflector/shield or alternatively, could be a more sophisticated directional antenna such as an HB9CV. Many different types of antenna have been used over the years, and some of the most primitive have helped in successfully locating the target.
You will probably also need some sort of attenuator to reduce the signal strength when very close to the target.
Each car and its occupant(s) will be treated as one tracking team. A friend is welcome to accompany any member providing they travel in the same vehicle.
