In July we received our new callsign of G3ZMS. It was first used in September at the VHF-NFD contest at Keymer Post. The first contact in this contest using our new callsign G3ZMS was G8CKF, made by Tony Bailey G3WPO. A further 93 contacts were made in this contest. |

We later acquired the callsign G1ZMS this year for the VHF-NFD Contest at Keymer Post. Class ‘B’ licenced members could use this callsign on VHF without having to have an ‘A’ licenced member with them, as was the case with G3ZMS (‘B’ licenced members were not allowed on the HF bands due to not having passed a morse code test!) |

On the 23rd May we had the formal opening of our new radio 'Shack' at Cyprus Hall. This was carried out by Nelida Varney - the widow of Louis Varney G5RV. Nelida also gave permission for Louis' callsign of G5RV to be used by the Mid Sussex Amateur Radio Society. The 26th of July of this year turned out to be a good day for ‘B’ licensed amateurs due to a change in laws. The ‘B’ licence became a ‘full’ licence, so they could now use the HF bands. This was due to the fact that Morse is no longer used in commercial applications. Sue, our Chairperson at that time started as a M3 call on the air before midnight and then changed to her G6YPY call sign after midnight. |
